Announcement of ASEAN Scholarships in the PhD in Sustainable Development

The International College of Thaksin University, in Thailand, supports researchers from ASEAN countries by offering three (3) scholarships to promising ASEAN students enrolled in its PhD in Sustainable Development. As the program is meant to be multi-disciplinary, Sustainable Development covers all academic disciplines.

1. Scholarship Award

1.1 The scholarship will cover the tuition fees to enroll in the PhD in Sustainable Development value of 600,000THB (approx. 20,000US$). Further, a research grant of 60,000 THB (approx.2,000US$) will be provided to the thesis supervisor in support of the research of the student.

1.2 Scholarship recipients may be eligible to obtain a Research Assistantship, in the case of research projects benefitting from research grants, or a Teaching Assistantship in specific classes. These Assistantships provide up to 15,000THB (approx. 500US$) per month, for a maximum period of three (3) years.

1.3 The International College will not be responsible for any domestic or international travel costs for the student or their travel partner and family.

1.4 The scholarship will be awarded for a period of three (3) years, with the condition that the student is enrolled at Thaksin University and shows good progress in his or her academic requirements and research work.

2. Eligibility

2.1 To be eligible for the PhD scholarship, the applicant must:

2.1.1 Be a citizen of an ASEAN country (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam).

2.1.2 Not be more than 45 years of age at the time of application.

2.1.3 Have obtained a Master Degree, or have completed any relevant studies, with no lower than a CGPA of 3.5 or equivalent.

2.2 Applicants who, in the past, have not studied in an English program must have taken one of the following English Language Proficiency tests, or any equivalent English tests, not more than two years before the date of application (Please note that Thaksin University reserve the right to interview the applicant to assess fluency in English):

2.2.1 TOEFL - Paper-based (TOEFL Paper), with a score not less than 550

                  - Computer-based (TOEFL CBT), with a score not less than 180

                  - Internet-based (TOEFL IBT), with a score not less than 80

2.2.2 IELTS, with a score not less than 5.5

The Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia is offering the Darmasiswa Scholarship Program Academic Year 2019/2020 to students from several countries including Vietnam.

In this one year scholarship program, students will study Indonesian language (Bahasa Indonesia), as well as Indonesian arts and culture. Students have the opportunity to choose one of 71 universities in which the awardees will attend.

Each student has to fulfill these requirements as the follows:

  1. Preferably Student
  2. Completed secondary education or its equivalent
  3. Minimum age 17 years and Not older than 35 years of age
  4. Able to communicate in English and additional Bahasa Indonesia, Proven by English Language Proficiency Certificate : TOEFL/TOEIC/IELTS or OTHER CERTIFICATE if applicable (Language certificate is not a mandatory)
  5. In good health as proven by Medical Certificate (medical checkup result)
  6. Unmarried
  7. Have basic knowledge of the field you're applying

  3. Passport valid at least 18 months from time of arrival in Indonesia
  4. Recommendation Letter From Education Institution / Professional Institution on official letterhead and signature (in English)
  5. Last academic transcript and certificates (in English)

  7. Other certificates that related to the field you're applying (if applicable)
  8. Writing essay about purpose of study (in english or bahasa Indonesia maximum 500 words)

The registration form, along with all supporting documents, should be submitted online to the aforementioned website no later than 1 March 2019.

Applicants with uncompleted documents will not be able to proceed to the interview session.

The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Ho Chi Minh City would sort the application form and all its supporting documents. The selected candidates are to take an interview session in the Consulate General and proceed to other test that will be conducted by the appointed university.

AYLTLC aims to bring student leaders worldwide, through engaging activities, to enhance their abilities in cross-cultural interaction and cooperation, which will further equip them to be effective leaders. In addition, participants will be able to understand more about Singapore - a multiracial, multilingual and multicultural society from various perspectives. Fees Description

Registration Fee: SGD 80 per person

Program Fee: SGD 880 per person  It includes:

  • Hotel Reception
  • Camp Materials (Camp Handbook, Name Tags and Certificates etc)
  • Opening Ceremony, Closing Ceremony, Learning Sessions, Travel Sessions and Presentation Session
  • Transportation (For relevant Travel and Learning Sessions in Singapore)
  • 4 nights’ accommodation (with Breakfast)
  • Welcome Luncheon (x 2)
  • Other Miscellaneous Services


The Organizing Committee will arrange accommodation for all participants and advisors. Upon receiving the payment acknowledgement, our Participant Services Officers will keep you informed on any updates through email or our website. We will do our best to provide a safe, comfortable and memorable stay for you during the camp.

Food & Transport

The Organizing Committee will provide Welcome Luncheons and Breakfast for participants (all mornings). In total, there are 4 Breakfast + 2 Lunch.

The Organizing Committee does not take responsibility for arranging transportation for participants' arrivals and departures of Singapore. Participants are highly encouraged to confirm their travel schedule as early as possible. Chartered buses will be available for relevant travel and learning sessions.
