The U.S. Mission to Vietnam is seeking candidates for the 2022 Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Professional Fellows Program on Civic Engagement, Economic Empowerment, Governance and Society, Sustainable Development and the Environment. The application deadline is November 15, 2021.
The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) is a public diplomacy program designed to advance regional strategic goals, break down barriers that separate the next generation of leaders in Southeast Asia, and link those emerging leaders to the United States.
The YSEALI Professional Fellows Program (YSEALI PFP) is a two-way U.S. Department of State exchange program designed to strengthen people-to-people ties between young leaders from Southeast Asia and the United States. Through intensive fellowships designed to broaden their professional expertise and enhance their leadership capabilities, YSEALI PFP provides emerging Southeast Asian leaders with the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in, and exposure to, U.S. public and private sector offices working on a variety of issues. The 2022 YSEALI PFP is planned as a hybrid program, which will include virtual activities and an inperson U.S.-based institute.
The YSEALI PFP will be administered in two cycles in 2022. Please note that this call for applications is for both cycles. Applicants will only participate in one cycle and can indicate their preferred cycle in their application.
PROGRAM DATES:
- Cycle 1 : Virtual activities will begin in February 2022. The U.S.-based exchange is tentatively scheduled for June 13 - July 22, 2022.
- Cycle 2 : Virtual activities will begin in May 2022. The U.S.-based exchange is tentatively scheduled for September 12 - October 21, 2022.
The in-person component in the United States will be organized taking into consideration all necessary safety guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and state and local authorities.
ELIGIBILITY:
- Be a YSEALI member. Join YSEALI at https://asean.usmission.gov/yseali/.
- A citizen and current resident of either: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste or Vietnam;
- Be emerging leaders in government, civil society, or the private sector and have demonstrated expertise pertaining to the respective theme for which they are applying;
J Be 25 to 35 years old at the start of the program, currently employed and have two or more years of relevant professional work experience;
J Be self-directed with demonstrated leadership and collaborative skills and are able to work effectively in a cross-cultural setting;
J Be able to identify an objective/project of their own selection that the applicant would like to implement in their home workplace or community;
J Have demonstrated proficiency in written and oral English.
